Enrique Silva

Enrique was born and raised on San Cristóbal Island in the Galápagos Archipelago. His parents moved from mainland Ecuador to the islands in the 1980s in search of better opportunities. Growing up surrounded by the ocean, Enrique developed a strong connection to nature, often accompanying his father on fishing trips and later working as crew on tourist yachts. These early experiences shaped his deep appreciation for the unique environment of his homeland.

At the age of 12, Enrique joined the local scouts association, where he learned survival skills with a strong emphasis on conservation. This program also introduced English lessons to his island, and by high school, he was fluent, eagerly engaging with visitors and sharing insights about the Galápagos. His passion for nature and storytelling led him to become a licensed naturalist guide in 2009, allowing him to educate and inspire travelers about the archipelago’s fragile ecosystem. Beyond guiding, Enrique is an English teacher, reflecting his commitment to education and personal development. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he took on a new role as a radio reporter, interviewing government officials, island decision-makers, and even former Ecuador President Guillermo Lasso. In his free time, Enrique enjoys running and reading, embracing the laid-back lifestyle of the islands. His journey—from childhood days at sea to his role as a guide, educator, and journalist—highlights his dedication to sharing the wonders of the Galápagos with the world.
