Today we had the great opportunity to visit a private reserve called Amazon Natural Park. In this private reserve, wild animals roam freely without the fear to be hunted. The idea of the owners was to establish a fish farm and protect the forest within its property.
We had to cross a manmade lake to get to the entrance of the forest trail. In this pristine forest, a set of eight hanging bridges were built to allow visitors to enjoy the view of the canopy of the forest. It’s a different way to learn about the forest interaction.
In the afternoon, we explored the area of Renacal, on the Yanayacu River. This black water tributary of the Maranon River is part of the Pacaya Samiria Natural Reserve. We hiked a small portion of a Varcea forest. Here we learned about the amazing trees with interesting root systems, and their strategy to survive the high-water seasons.
It was just a great day exploring the Upper Amazon.
