On a day like today, on July 20th 1967, Lindblad Travel had its first International Expedition to Galapagos Islands, so we are celebrating our 50th anniversary.

On his first expedition to Galapagos, the founder of the company, Lars-Eric Lindblad, wrote: “In the spirit of great curiosity, I approached the islands on our first cruise in July 1967. I utilized the Navarino for the Galapagos run. For comfort I kept total to forty-six guests.”

We woke up this morning by the Island of Bartolome, where after walking to the top of the island, we had an amazing photo opportunity of the famous Pinnacle Rock followed by a delicious breakfast. We observed many colorful tropical fish species at the snorkeling site, and had a great time swimming with some Galapagos penguins in their feeding activities. A huge pod of bottle-nosed dolphins gave a fantastic show around the National Geographic Endeavor II before we took off as if they were part of the celebration of 50th anniversary.

Heading into the afternoon, we watched Galapagos sea lions rolling down on the beach, red colored crabs scrapping algae from the rocks, and blue-footed boobies diving after the small sardines. The nice volcanic features were also the attractions for our guests.

On our way back to the ship we admired the colors, light, and shadows over “Sombrero Chino” which made an amazing end of the day.
