Early this morning we arrived in Delos to start our tour of the sacred island of the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. The island is one of the most important mythological and archaeological sites in the Greece. Thousands of believers have made the pilgrimage to the site and enriched the island with impressive temples, shrines, valuable gifts and donations.

The most fascinating part of our visit came when we strolled the streets of the residential district. Here we saw the remains of beautiful mansions with delightful mosaic decorations that reflect a world of prosperity and wealth.

In the afternoon we sailed to the island of Naxos, the largest island of the Cyclades.  We visited the medieval town and we explored the main castle.  After our visit to the castle we explored the modern town which was active and vibrant.

Today was an unforgettable day, made even better when we saw the sunset behind the Portara, an ancient marble doorway that is believed to be Apollo’s temple entrance that stands on a scenic point overlooking the city and sea.
