Today National Geographic Orion came into port on a beautiful calm morning in Djupivogur, Iceland. Djupivogur is a small town on the southeast coast, with only 350 full time residents. Though our activities would take us away from this quaint village for the rest of the day, it is a nice quiet home to return to.

Quite quickly the busses loaded and took off, headed for a day full of travel and fun. First the guests would transit to a glacial lagoon, where the shallow water traps calving icebergs and holds them in purgatory, a beautiful sight to see. Guests have the opportunity to board a small amphibious vessel and learn about glaciers, ice, and the formation of this beautiful country. The next stop is a glacier, where everyone is welcome to mount a snowmobile and tour the ancient ice formation from the surface; a very special experience. Those who opt out are welcome to join a SuperJeep, the Icelandic version of a 4X4 vehicle.
