After a smooth journey through the Beagle Channel overnight, National Geographic Resolution adjusted its course southward, venturing into the legendary Drake Passage. Just after 6 am, the sun greeted us with brilliant shades of orange, casting golden light across the partly clouded blue sky. Persistent westerly winds stirred up the sea conditions at times, creating the perfect environment for seabirds to glide effortlessly around the ship. Later tonight, we will cross the polar front, where water temperatures will drop sharply, marking our official entry into Antarctic waters.

Following breakfast, we had the opportunity to meet our expert expedition team, a dynamic blend of personalities and knowledge that will guide us in the days ahead. The morning was spent enjoying the ship’s inviting spaces as we continued our southbound journey through the Drake Passage.

In the afternoon, we gathered in the Ice Lounge for two engaging programs: Smartphone Photography with Certified Photo Instructor Alex Joseph and Seabirds of the Southern Ocean with renowned Naturalist and birding expert, Santiago Imberti. No day at sea would be complete without afternoon tea, our first recap of the expedition, and, of course, a fantastic meal prepared by our talented hotel team.
