Our Galapagos Islands expedition started in earnest as we explored Española Island, the most southeastern island of the archipelago.
We started our day with a pre-breakfast kayak outing in the northeast portion of the island, at Gardner Bay. We then snorkeled and explored the underwater world at nearby Gardner Islet. Later, we joined other guests at beautiful Gardner Bay beach.
During lunch, we sailed along the leeward north coast of the island while enjoying a traditional Ecuadorian meal, buffet style. For our last landing of the day, we disembarked at Punta Suarez. As we made our way around the inland trail, we came across the largest birds in the Galapagos - the waved albatross, which only breeds on Española. The walk along the difficult terrain was well worth it as some guests even got to witness courtship, which is somewhat rare at this stage as most albatross birds are already incubating eggs.
