Today we started early in the western region of the Galapagos; this morning we arrived at Fernandina Island, the youngest island in the archipelago.
We went ashore for a walk, and we felt as though we had been transported back in time to when the land was newly formed. The highlights of the morning were the countless Galapagos marine iguanas that were basking at the shoreline. Afterward, we snorkeled in the bay with Galapagos penguins, sea lions, several species of fish, and green sea turtles that were feeding on seaweed over the rocks.
In the afternoon, we backtracked north and navigated to the northwestern region of Isabela Island. The outing took our groups on a Zodiac ride to explore the coast. There we found fur seals, blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, Galapagos penguins, and the impressive flightless cormorants. Later in the day we proceeded across the Equatorial Line, and celebrated this event with our guests on the top deck during a sunset wine-tasting event.
