The Caledonian Star entered Uruguayan waters today after sailing more than two weeks in tropical Brazil. It is exceptionally mild today with a temperature of about 72 degrees and brilliant clear sunshine. It has been a most relaxing day for our guests after all of the wonderful and exhilarating explorations in Brazil. Our latitude now is approximately 34 degrees south. An equivalent latitude in the northern Hemisphere would include Santa Barbara, California, Flagstaff, Arizona, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Little Rock, Arkansas and Wilmington, North Carolina. Our natural history staff gathered on the bow deck for a photo today. Pictured from left to right (front row) are: Libby Tainter, Wayne Ranney, Suzana Machado D'Oliveira, and Dennis Cornejo; back row finds William Lopez-Forment, David Barnes, Tom Ritchie, Lyall Watson, and Alice Coogan. They have been a great team for this voyage of Latin Discovery and most appreciated by our guests for all of their lectures and recaps.
