Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) are by far the largest of all the herons present on the islands. This beautiful and elegant bird is found on all but the four northernmost islands of the Archipelago. Often spotted along the rocky shores where it fishes, this large bird catches everyone's eyes. Though it basically feeds on fish, it is not uncommon to see it preying on lava lizards and baby marine iguanas.
