This morning, we awoke to the amazing beauty of Glacier Bay National Park, and we were thrilled to have a park ranger join our expedition to help guide us. The clouds were low in the morning, giving the mountains a mysterious feel, and we enjoyed wonderful wildlife sightings. Humpbacks made appearances throughout the day with one of them fin-slapping and breaching. We also came across a black bear foraging on the shoreline and spent some time observing.
On a first pass of Gloomy Knob this morning, it lived up to its name with very low clouds, but we were still able to spot a hoary marmot. While passing the Lamplugh Glacier we spotted a brown bear on a ridge line. It peacefully foraged while we chose whether to observe it or if we should watch for glacier calving.
At John Hopkins Glacier we saw a couple calving events and many harbor seals resting on ice chunks. On a second pass of Gloomy Knob, we found around twelve mountain goats. We briefly stopped at Bartlett Cove to drop off the ranger and take a short hike to end our day.
