National Geographic Quest celebrated American Independence Day in an extremely patriotic way – exploring the entire length of one of the United States’ largest national parks. Since the establishment of Yellowstone National Park in 1872, the National Park System has grown to include more than 400 areas covering over 84 million acres in all 50 U.S. states that have been put aside for the benefit and enjoyment of the people and protecting of cultural and recreational resources.
First rediscovered and explored in 1879 by naturalist and writer John Muir, Glacier Bay inspires and awes with its grand landscapes and unique opportunities for observing wildlife. Guests had sightings of a myriad of marine mammals, hundreds of birds, mountain goats, coastal brown bears, and some of the tallest mountain peaks in North America surrounding incredible tidewater glaciers. Some of our youngest guests – the Global Explorers – acted as photographers-to-be and told the story of our journey into the bay with photos for this Expedition Report.
