Adventures awaited us in Haines, Alaska, today. Although the clouds hung low and appeared slightly ominous, they held their moisture as we scampered around the town. The activity options were numerous: floating the Chilkat River; hiking up the fog-shrouded Mount Riley; biking to Chilkoot Lake to hopefully catch a glimpse of brown bears fishing; fly fishing in the same river as the bears; or flightseeing over the stunning scenery of Glacier Bay.

In the evening we had a Dungeness crab fest with still more choices: butter? spicy barbeque sauce? The day was visually rewarding as well as delicious. 

Jonah Shanoff, age 9, was inspired by his trip floating down the Chilkat River. He wrote the poem below:
