The National Geographic Sea Bird awoke to a drizzly morning in Hood River, Oregon. Morning options included visiting the Western Aeroplane and Automobile Museum. The antique aeroplanes and automobiles fill three hanger buildings, and all have been donated to the organization over the years. The museum offers an array of automobiles and airplanes from every era, in excellent condition, still claiming to fully function.
Another option was to take a morning stroll through the recently restored Mosier Tunnels, which were part of the scenic Columbia River Highway. The tunnels were built so old automobiles, especially the Model T, could drive through at a high rock point. After the production of larger vehicles, which could no longer pass one another freely in the tunnels, a number of accidents occurred, and the tunnels were eventually abandoned, and blocked off. Later on, the tunnels were restored for recreational purposes. Guests were given the opportunity to hike through the tunnels, walking among big leaf maples and ponderosa pine. Guests also had an option to walk around downtown at Hood River, and shop at local boutiques, as well, as farmers markets. Just before lunch, Full Sail Brewing Company opened its doors, and handed out flights of some freshly brewed microbrews. After enjoying their tastings with a satisfied smile, guests were given a guided tour of the interiors of the brewing company, where they experienced a behind-the-scenes look and learned how they brew the variety of beers.
The afternoon consisted of wine tasting and a tour at Cathedral Ridge Winery, which sits in the middle of the Cascade Range, on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge appellation. Afterwards guests were able to relax, and enjoy the rest of their evening in Hood River, Oregon.
