Still on-route to the Orkney Islands, we spent this morning at sea. Naturalist Conor Ryan kept us entertained with tales of sea-monsters (and their real-life inspirations) while Historian Deirdre Mitchell explored the history of the Vikings, who made the same sea crossing some 1200 years before.

We arrived in Kirkwall, the Orcadian capital, to blue skies and sunshine. Some of our guests spent the afternoon sampling the delicious whisky produced by the local Scapa Distillery, while others toured the town with local guides.

In the evening, we ventured in to town for a lively performance by Orcadian folk group The Chair. By the end of the night, there was some dancing in the aisles!
