It was a beautiful final day of operations in Southeast Alaska, beginning with a slew of hikes at Lake Eva. A forested environment with a rich intertidal ecosystem, Lake Eva presented a wealth of wildlife. I was particularly enthralled with the presence of a northern harrier that cruised over the shoreline near the lake, searching for prey. Signs of bear and Sitka black-tailed deer were omnipresent.
Back aboard, we gathered on the bow as we said our last goodbyes to our new friends. Humpback whales and Dall’s porpoises swam by to join in the celebration, blessing us with their presence as we headed toward Sitka. Now we gather in the forward lounge, anxious to watch our guest slideshow and toast to the week that was.
