The morning could not have been more beautiful as National Geographic Explorer made its way through the Lemaire Channel. We passed through despite huge icebergs thanks to the expertise of the Bridge team. After breakfast, we had the privilege of visiting the Ukrainian Research Station, Vernadsky. We learned about the history of the British Wordie Hut, which was evacuated in such a rush in 1954 that they left all the contents inside.
The afternoon was just as spectacular with a hike or a Zodiac tour of Pleneau, where we saw humpback whales, gentoo penguins, and leopard, elephant, and crabeater seals. The icebergs really stole the show at this landing. The beautifully carved pieces of floating art were the size of buildings. It was another amazing day in Antarctica.
