Today we had a relaxing morning on the Sea Cloud as we sailed the Aegean Sea.  We left Amorgos for Milos and the weather was still windy – angry Poseidon was still with us! – but the Sea Cloud was steady on her course and we enjoyed sailing in the blue water.

Our day began with a wonderful lecture on seafaring in the ancient Aegean, and how people back then would sail around these beautiful islands. On the Lido deck after Dr. Rebecca Ingram’s presentation we took part in discussions and questions about shipping, sailing and ancient wrecks.

We enjoyed a buffet lunch of Greek specialties as we approached the islands of Milos. The large, safe natural port of the island caldera welcomed us into its calm waters. Our first destination was Plaka, the capital city of the island.

We walked through the narrow streets amongst beautiful whitewashed houses, so typical of the Cyclades in these medieval settlements. We made our way to the Greek Orthodox Church. Breathtaking views outside the church kept us for a while before we entered and learnt about Greek churches and orthodox religion.  On our meander downhill and back to our coaches, we stopped to enjoy local sweets and relax at a shaded café.

After our visit to Plaka we went for a swim in the Aegean on a beautiful beach with cliffs in the background, all different colors. This island is a paradise for geologists.

We returned to the Sea Cloud in the early evening for a delicious dinner accompanied by the musical talents of Gaynor Trammer at the piano.
