The day begins with wonderful conditions; the skies are sunny, and the ocean is inviting, just waiting for Zodiacs. Our explorers are all excited, ready at the gate to disembark our ship, setting course to the island of North Seymour—a small island separated from Baltra by a shallow water channel. We arrive to a rocky landing covered by Sally Lightfoot crabs, which shine brightly against the dark rocks, creating an excellent photo opportunity. Our first stop here at the coast brings us to the habitat of the Galapagos land iguanas, and the sea lions as well. The naturalists passionately share interesting information about the natural history of these creatures, as we walk across this incredible landscape.
Many more attractions appear as our excursion continues, such as the dancing blue-footed boobies, and the amazing magnificent frigatebird. It seems as though the wildlife is aware of our presence and is happy to impress us, showing us what they do. The walk ends at a rocky path at the other side of the island, where our Zodiacs are waiting to pick us up.
The next part of our adventure today takes place at another island close by, called Rabida. We have many options this afternoon for aquatic activities, depending on the experience levels of our guests. Our deep water snorkelers are headed to a point where there is lots of underwater action, including many varieties of tropical and reef fish, perhaps sea lions, turtles, and sharks. At the beach, we have some of our explorers practicing a bit in the shallow waters, where they snorkel in a more protected environment.
After snorkeling, we offer a lovely walk along the beach, with opportunities to see sea lions and many different birds. To end this excellent day, we are rewarded with an incredible sunset behind Rabida Island. Our expedition is off to an incredible start!
