National Geographic Sea Bird cruised gently southward overnight, crossing the Tropic of Cancer in the early morning hours. From this angle, Cabo Falso (False Cape) appears to be the last of the land. Continuing, we reached the iconic arch and eroded granitic sea stacks of “Land’s End”—the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Later in the morning we docked in the San Jose del Cabo marina and chose options for birdwatching and shopping in the Old Town. After we departed the port, we went in search of marine life in the rich waters around Gorda Banks. We were rewarded with sightings of a sea turtle, hammerhead shark, leaping billfish, and humpback whales.
