Today we bade farewell to British Columbia and the Inside Passage. We awoke to a morning of fog, rain, and a noticeable increase in ship traffic and radio chatter of ship captains announcing their intention of passage in the narrow lanes. An addition to our morning traffic was a steady stream of sailboats, making good time toward their destinations with main and headsails full of wind.
We were treated to a full and final day of photo instruction as National Geographic Sea Bird cruised toward our U.S. port of entry in Friday Harbor in the unceded territory of the Salish Nation. As we sailed, we gained last-minute tips from the staff photographers to help us finalize our best images for the evening’s slideshow. Upon docking and clearing customs, we explored the quaint seafood vendors, shacks, and boutiques of the town in the afternoon rain. We were back on board by evening and we continued to our final destination at Pier 69 in the city of Seattle, the final stop on our incredible journey south from Sitka, Alaska.
