On our last full day in the Galapagos aboard National Geographic Delfina, we stopped by Santa Cruz Island, the economic center of the province. Here we anchored in the northern part of the Island, called La Tranca. The Galapagos National Park is running a major project to recover different populations of giant tortoises. We observed tortoises that are part of the program and even had a chance to witness hatchlings.
After a delicious lunch in town, we moved to the highlands to learn from local families about their interactions with the islands. We also observed wild tortoises in the highlands of Santa Cruz. It was a great day full of giant tortoises!
