For our last full day in the amazing Galapagos Islands, we visited Santa Cruz. As the most populated island, it is the perfect place to see the interaction between development and conservation. We started with a visit to the Galapagos Giant Tortoise Breeding Center where we viewed different types of shells belonging to the famous giant tortoises.
In the afternoon, we traveled to the highlands. On the way, we witnessed how the microclimate affects the composition of the island’s flora. Once in the highlands, we visited a traditional farm that still processes crops using ancient practices. We also to a stroll among giant tortoises roaming freely in their natural habitat.
