We arrived on the eastern side of the Uraba peninsula early this morning in the border town of Sapzurro, Colombia, the last town before entering Panama.

Our morning activities offered the opportunity to cross over the border to enjoy a birding walk or to snorkel in the pristine coral reefs of Sapzurro. Both were great experiences. Birding these forests is always active for several species, including toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, black chested-jays, hummingbirds, and the migrant warblers.

We returned to National Geographic Quest for lunch and repositioned to the town of Capurgana with a population of 5,000, which was a sharp contrast to the beach town of Sapzurro with a population of 400.

Our mission in Capurgana was to visit the local elementary school, who put on a very special folkloric performance that was truly a heartfelt experience.
