National Geographic Orion began the day early with a sunrise Zodiac cruise up the Sepik River to visit a small village. Everyone was welcomed into the village with traditional dances and singing. After the welcome, we wandered through the village and spent time speaking with the local residents. Everyone was friendly and excited to share their lives with the visitors from the ship. There was an opportunity to try some local foods and to buy beautiful hand-made crafts. Afterward we returned to the ship. As noon approached National Geographic Orion turned north; we enjoyed an afternoon exploring at sea with educational lectures and delicious snacks. The day ended as the sun sank behind the wake of the ship, exploding in stunning colors. What a day!!
