One of my favorite destinations to return to on the Wild Alaska Escape expedition is the small fishing town of Wrangell. The reason I love Wrangell is simple: there are many wonderful activities for our guests to enjoy. A group and I joined a jet boat tour along the Stikine River. It was very exciting to navigate up the river at fast speed, shifting and turning, avoiding rocks and logs. We had amazing landscapes in all directions including waterfalls, valleys, and Rock Castle — yet the most impressive view of all was Shakes Glacier. We were able to navigate near this receding tidewater glacier for amazing photos.

The small town of Wrangell greeted guests of National Geographic Sea Lion today with a cultural sharing at Tlingit Chief Shakes House. Multiple generations of local families are learning, practicing, and sharing traditions and culture in this special place. Other adventures today included exploring Petroglyph Beach State Park, jetboating up the Stikine River and viewing wildlife and glaciers, riding e-bikes through town, and climbing the trails of Mount Dewey. Back on board, the Alaska Crab Feast topped off the day!

Cascade Creek and Scenery Cove
This morning, National Geographic Sea Lion anchored at Cascade Creek, a stunning destination for hikes in the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska. From the smallest of lichens and mosses to the tallest western hemlock trees and Sitka spruces, our guests learned from our naturalists as they hiked along Cascade Creek. In the afternoon, we explored Scenery Cove on Zodiacs, getting familiar with the rocky coast. In the evening, we spent time looking for marine mammals from the bow of the ship. It was another amazing day in Southeast Alaska.
