With calm seas and sunny skies, our day in Southeast Alaska flew by.
Despite an early wake-up call, not a single eye was sleepy after a gorgeous morning Zodiac tour around LeConte Bay. Massive icebergs float throughout the bay, originating from the nearby LeConte Glacier, and fed by the Stikine Icefield above. Guests marveled at the stunning deep blue color of the ice, and had a chance to practice a handful of photographic techniques.
After such an exciting morning, a bountiful buffet awaited us on board National Geographic Venture. From a mountain of waffles to fresh cooked salmon, there was a delight for every palate.
Our next stop was Petersburg, known as “the town that fish built.” It was engaging to visit this small town; we learned all about the vast fishing industry which resides here, and the historical influence of the nearby LeConte Glacier.
In the afternoon, a parade of activities awaited. Some guests explored nearby Kupreanof Island by hiking to Wolf Bog and learning about the muskeg environment. Other guests enjoyed dock tours, bike rides, and more.
To finish off an already spectacular day, the crew prepared an all-you-can-eat crab feast on board.
What a way to spend a day here in Southeast Alaska.
