National Geographic Explorer made her way to the Faroe Islands during the night. Today, guests enjoyed a presentation by National Geographic photographer Sisse Brimberg. It was great to learn more about how we can express ourselves through photography. This was followed by naturalist David Cairns’ presentation about the biogeography of the North Atlantic Isles. During lunch, the movements of the ship seized as we reached the pilot station and made it to calmer waters. The beautiful scenery of the Faroe Islands awaited us. Massive volcanic cliffs covered with super-saturated green grass drop straight into the ocean.
We docked at Miðvágar, from where we were taken by coach to a beautiful hike along a big lake. Sheep, flowers, and plenty of volcanic rocks awaited us along the trail, and those of us who made it to the end were rewarded by stunning views down the volcanic cliffs. We could even explore the waterfall where the lake water drops straight into the ocean.
After dinner, we went out one more time to further explore the island by coach or by a local boat to get better views of the impressive waterfall. It was cold but definitely worth it. For sure, it was one of the best experiences so far.
