Today we visited San Cristobal Island in the southern part of the archipelago. There are around 10,000 people living here, and San Cristobal is the administrative capital of the Galápagos.
We spent the early morning at Punta Pitt looking for red-footed boobies but found all three species. It was wonderful to see the three in the same area. For guests that chose to swim here, they had the opportunity to be near some very playful Galapagos sea lions. These marine mammals are the best! Guests also found many types of tropical fish which made everyone’s experience even better.
In the afternoon we explored Cerro Brujo on the shore of San Cristobal. This is a place with a dramatic landscape and a large colony of sea lions. There’s also a long beach with fine white sand and black basaltic rock. Its home to sea birds such as the blue-footed booby and brown pelican. The beach is the best place to observe and photograph wildlife, or just spend time with friends and family.
It’s been an amazing week in the Galapagos with so many contrasting landscapes and sightings of blue whales and orcas. What an incredible experience.
