From Antarctic Sound at the northern tip of the Antarctic peninsula to South Georgia is over 800 nautical miles, requiring more than two full days at sea. Sea Days have a different pace than days when we can make a landing. Things seem a little slower on board, with time for reflection, catching a nap, or a visit to the bridge.
This morning, we attended a mandatory briefing and film about the fragile eco-system of South Georgia, and the serious measures that must be taken to keep the island in its natural state., After lunch we had an opportunity to attend presentations on Antarctic history and the wildlife we hope to find in the coming days.
