Today we visited Terra Nova National Park, our final stop on a fabulous tour of the Canadian Maritimes, Newfoundland, and Labrador. This morning, we explored hiking trails within the park, including the Heritage Trail, Goowiddy Path, and the Terra Nova Coastal Trail. We encountered mink, red squirrels, slugs, flowers, lichens, moss, and the lush coastal forest. Although we didn’t encounter any moose today, we saw much evidence of moose-browsed trees, as these animals frequent the area and can consume more than 20kg of vegetation each day.
After a good stretch of the legs, we enjoyed touring the wonderful visitors and interpretive center, which included some aquariums and touch tanks to get to know the local marine life.
In the afternoon, we were treated to music ashore by local ensemble KitchinParti that got our feet stomping in true Newfoundland fashion before we headed back to National Geographic Explorer for the captain’s farewell dinner. A beautiful evening was had by all.>
