During the morning, we went for a skiff ride along the riverbanks of the Ucayali River, we spotted a few yellow and blue macaws flying overhead as well as a couple of umbrella birds and sitting on top of the canopy. A few of the large billed terns were skimming the surface of the ocean in search for small fish. Great egrets were spotted feeding on the small fish washed on shore by the water level changes on the river. After our skiff ride, we went on hike into the forest and learned about the native plants of the area, we spotted a couple of night owl monkeys high up on a canon ball fruit tree.
After lunch, we had the change to also go to a river beach to enjoy some mud therapy and natural exfoliation while covering ourselves in mud and jumping in the water for a refreshing swim along the riverbanks of this Amazon tributary. Some cold coconuts with its delicious water were brought to the beach as well as some cold beers and other refreshments, making our beach experience in the Upper Amazon, completely unforgettable.
After a great time at the river beach, we went back on board for a quick shower and went right out for a late afternoon and night exploration to encounter some, howler monkeys, and as soon as the night arrived, we spotted several reticulated (white) and black Caymans as a well as s few species of nocturnal birds. The Cayman’s eye was shinny with the flashlight light from a far distance, which made them easy for our guides to spot them along the skiff ride. We stayed in the area admiring these elegant reptiles, having some close encounters with some of them. We took a few pictures of this caimans and then some light rain with thunder reached us, announcing that it was time for us to go back to enjoy dinner aboard our mother ship in the Peruvian Upper Amazon.
