Iván Vásquez
Iván grew up in San Cristóbal, Galápagos, in a family of artists, where creativity and the natural world shaped his early interests. He explored a variety of artistic outlets, from painting and music to photography, eventually discovering a camera that connected his talents with wildlife and expedition travel. He co-founded the band Arkabuz which recorded two albums inspired by the Galápagos, toured throughout Ecuador, and was recognized as the country's Best Band in 2008. His interest in nature photography and conservation led him to begin working aboard expedition vessels in 2010, documenting the islands' wildlife.
In 2015, Iván moved to California to earn a degree in Film and Television Production, expanding his filmmaking skills. After returning to the Galápagos, he joined National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions working first in the Galápagos and later in Alaska. He became a video chronicler in 2021 and added the roles of naturalist and photo instructor in Alaska in 2023. In 2025, he earned both his National Guide certification in Ecuador and his Galápagos Naturalist License, strengthening his ability to interpret and share the region's natural history.
Beyond expedition travel, Iván promotes cultural development in the Galápagos through Archipelago Films, a media production company he founded with his brother on San Cristóbal Island. The company supports local filmmaking while providing communication services for agencies, institutions, and nonprofit organizations, reflecting his commitment to both the islands' communities and natural environment.
