Eclipse Post-Extension
On August 12, 2026, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula will be bathed in the moon’s shadow during one of the solar system’s most astonishing phenomena: a total solar eclipse. Enjoy an exclusive experience with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions field staff on the peninsula at a private hotel to prepare for and capture one of the most spectacular happenings on the planet.
Day 1 - Reykjavík
Disembark today and spend a relaxing day in Iceland’s Arctic capital before enjoying a leisurely lunch and checking into your included hotel. Dinner is on your own tonight as you have time to enjoy the city at your own pace.
Day 2-4 - Snæfellsnes
After a morning at leisure, transfer out to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula with lunch on the way. Jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, the peninsula is your base for the next three days as you prepare for the solar eclipse. Enjoy the geologic wonders of the landscape formed by the volcanic belt located down the middle of the peninsula.
Spend two days exploring the peninsula’s variety of landscapes, such as black sand beaches and volcanic hillsides, along with attending photo workshops and walks to prepare ourselves for the approaching eclipse.
At 4:45 p.m., the total solar eclipse will be witnessed on the peninsula (weather permitting) for about 2 hours, with totality close to two minutes. Witness and capture one of the solar system's most spectacular displays.
Day 5 - Reykjavík
This morning, transfer off the peninsula and back to the airport for flights home. Lunch will be provided on the return drive, and travelers will be delivered at the airport for late afternoon flights onward.
